A Night Out #3 "Mood Swing"

Welcome back to the newiest edition of what you've been missing. It's been a long time! So what's up with this new show? Actually, nothing special - the usual dope vibes essential to satisfy your body and mind. As you may have noticed, there is no guiding principle for this mix, hence the title. This would probably happen from time to time...

A Night Out #2 "Black Dynamite" (2010)

For the second episode of our A Night Out series, we will go back to the good old days of the blaxploitation, with a specific spotlight on the 2009 Scott Sanders' movie Black Dynamite. This show is kind of a blast around that movie and its main character Black Dynamite; it will be obviously interspersed with extracts from the movie and from its original soundtrack, and some other blaxploitation songs and original radio spots, cinematic jazz vibes and library music tracks too. Add to that the usual hiphop and funk stuff, as well as a bunch of sunny vibes and latin sounds during the last part of the set - not to forget that the sun will someday shine again.

Enough said; I hope you will all enjoy the mix, and as usual do not forget about the feedbacks and spread the word!

A Night Out #1 "Killer Of Sheep" (2009)

Let’s kick off 2010 with “Killer of sheep”, first episode of an upcoming streak of mixes. A Night Out aims at melting funk, hiphop, jazz, blues, soul, afro, latin, blaxploitation and everything that is by and large related to the great black music. Each mix will be lead and influenced by a guiding thread – movie, book, news, my own mood.

I confess that I am a bit over-confident with the word “mix” knowing that I am currently using no turntables due to technical issues (my turntables and my piggy bank are both broken). The mixes will be released on an uneven basis, but as often as necessary to keep your ears buzzing and hungry!

This first mix is introduced by a beautiful track from the movie “Killer of sheep” by Charles Burnett (shot in 1977 and eventually released in 2007 only due to music rights issues), which had also influenced the last Mos Def album, Ecstatic, which features a screenshot from “Killer of sheep” as its album artwork. I let you discover the remainder of the mix, which blends 2009 fresh hiphop bullets, old school beats, cosmic funk and brass waves!

A Night Out will take you back to the roots, with the eyes turned to the skyline and your feet stuck in our hottest concrete! Hope you will enjoy the mix, do not forget about the feedback and spread the word!
